Chapter 3

A huge jolt wakes me up. Panic hits me for a second before I remember that I am in Rich’s truck. The smell in here seems worse than before. I groan and sit up straight. We are now in city limits but where I do not know.
“How was your nap?” Rich asks.
“Where are we?” I mumble, ignoring his question.
“Just entered Iowa. We will stop for supper soon and maybe get some rest. You were moaning a lot in your sleep so I’m sure you’re still tired. I don’t rent hotels so we can just crash in the back.” Rich points backwards to his sleeping cabin and I can feel my skin crawl. I wouldn’t go back there even if I was dead.
It’s dark out. I must have slept quite a while. And I’m hungry again. I rub my stomach. But this time I need real blood. “Are we by any hospitals? I need to run in and get a prescription. I promise I will be real quick.” Rich looks over to my body and I can feel him becoming impatient. I need to get out of here before things escalate. “I need to take my meds with food. Maybe you can get some food while I pick up my stuff and then we can get some rest in back?” I point to the cabin to try and be more convincing. He believes me and smiles.
Rich drops me off at the local small hospital and tells me he will meet me at the McDonalds down the street. I watch him drive off and I smirk to myself. He really fell for that one. I walk into the small hospital and look around. Where would blood bags be? It’s not like I can walk up to someone and ask them were they keep their blood supply. Focus Sashi. Let you magic lead you to where they are.
Okay Lily. I close my eyes and let my magic take over my senses. I feel it pull me straight and let it lead me. I open my eyes and let instinct move me. Soon I find myself in front of a few fridges near the pharmacy. That was easy. Before I open the frig I freeze. A shiver slides up my back and I know I’m being watched. I cannot sense anyone on the room so it must be a camera. Wonderful.
I use my magic to find the one and only camera in the room. Thankfully my face has been turned away from it the entire time. I breathe and focus and wrap my magical energy around the camera and squeeze. It shatters and falls to the ground. I use my sleeve to cover my hand before I open the door and grab a few bags out. Quickly I open my garbage bag and place them inside. But my nose catches something amiss. I can smell Rich in my bag.
Fury hits and I rummage through my bag. It’s gone! One of my most prized possessions is gone. Only two things in this world mean the world to me. The first is a photo of me and my dad from when I was seven years old. The second is the necklace my dad gave me on my sixth birthday. Those are the only things I cherish and Rich has my necklace.
With massive amounts of speed behind my stride I exit the hospital in less than thirty seconds. I smell Rich down the street and I narrow in on his scent. I round the corner and he is standing outside his truck with three big bags of food in his arms. Before he knows it I’m standing in front of him. He drops the bags of food in shock and smiles at me.
“Where is it?” I demand.
“Where’s what doll?” he smirks.
I shove him against his truck so hard it dents the metal. My eyes narrow at him. “You have ten seconds to give me back my necklace or you will regret it.”
Rich kicks my knee cap and I drop to the ground and rub the tender spot. I may be a hybrid but that still hurts like hell. “You are a fool darlin’. Did you honestly think you could get some free food and a ride and walk away? I don’t think so.” He grabs a fistful of my hair and yanks my head up to face him. “You are going to get into my truck and crawl back into the cab and thank me for all that I’ve done for you.”
Power and energy surges through me. Sashi! Lily gasps inside me. It’s too late. I let the power build. Rich is going to dearly regret this.
“What’s going on here?!” a woman’s voice shrieks. Rich and I both turn and see a dark haired woman approach. My power bottoms out and panic hits me in the gut. She’s a werewolf! Why does it have to be a wolf?
“This is my daughter. I caught her trying to steal and run away with my truck.” Rich lies smoothly while yanking me up off the ground.
The woman’s eyes land on mine. “Is this true?”
“No,” I say very clearly. “He’s trying to rape me.”
“You little bitch,” Rich mumbles under his breath. He thinks the woman won’t hear him because she is still several feet away. Little does he know that she is a werewolf and has very sensitive hearing.
“You let this young woman go. Now!” the woman’s voice demands.
Rich pushes me away and I fall to the ground to appear human. “Look here ma’am. My child has issues and I don’t appreciate you budding in. I will take of her so please mind your own damn business.”
The woman stalks up to Rich and grabs his hand away from me. I hear a loud pop and crunch and Rich falls to the ground whimpering and swearing. He calls her a bitch and tries to knock her to the ground, but instead he face plants himself into the cold concrete.
She reaches her hand out to me and I grab it and she helps me off the ground. “Thanks,” I say. She smiles at me and turns to Rich while grabbing her cell phone. Before she starts dialing I touch her hand.
I squat down and grab Rich’s collar and force him to face me. His nose is bleeding and I feel my teeth shift. My body may want his blood but I sure has hell don’t. “Give me my back my necklace.” He shoots daggers at me with his eyes but reaches down to his pocket and pulls out my gold locket. I snatch it away from him and put it on. I usually never take it off but I didn’t want to lose it when I ran from that place. It won’t come off again, ever.
“My name is Karah,” the lady tells me. She grabs my garbage bag of clothes and hands it to me. I mumble a thanks and start walking away. “How about coming home with me?”
I stop and turn and face her. Seriously? “Thanks but no thanks. Look where trusting someone got me. I won’t make that mistake again.”
“I don’t do things like this. But I like you. The second I saw you I knew that you were different. I’d like to offer you a job.”
Sashi, I like her. Her wolf feels good. I think she can help us. I mentally sigh at Lily. Sashi, she’s not like the wolves from home. She won’t betray us. I can feel it. I know you can too. I close my eyes and let my power caress the woman named Karah. I can feel how powerful she is. She has strength and age behind her 30 year old face. But that’s not all. Lily is right. I can feel a connection to her. There is something about her that makes me want to follow her. She feels like she could be my home. I’ve never doubted my senses or Lily and I’m not about to start now.

“Okay,” I whisper. I feel Lily smile and jump inside me. I smile too.
