Untitled Poem

Untitled

My mind is racing at the speed of light,
Something tells me this is right.
Because of my heart I know it's real,
With my entire being I can feel.

The words don't have to be heard,
Because with body language I've learned,
Words are hollow,
But actions I will follow.

Moments have lead to now,
And with my heart I solemnly vow,
To be only who I am,
And to those who disagree I won't give a damn.

Chapter 5

“What are you talking about?” Karah says through tight lips.
I sigh and shake my head. Sashi what are you doing? I’m sorry Lily but I can’t lie to her. For some reason I just can’t. I need to tell her. You can tell her about your vampire and witch blood but don’t tell her about you being a wolf. She will have to tell them if you do. Werewolves don’t rule the vampires. She will have no reason to say anything about a half vampire half witch. You trust her though you said. I picture Lily in my head and she looks sad. You know why Sashi. Because of the laws. Stupid werewolf laws.
I sigh inwardly and Lily nuzzles my hand. Whenever I focus on Lily it’s like she’s outside by body and we are having a conversation like any two people. Granted the conversation is with a huge wolf and not a human, but I can communicate with her like she is. I am her and she is me but we also separate. I have my own thinking and she has her own. I control my body though. Lily can’t control my actions. Unless you change into wolf form. If I was able to change into wolf from Lily would have control of our body. But since I can’t shift it doesn’t matter. Lily sighs and walks away from me.
“Sorry Lily,” I whisper to her in my head. She wants to be able to take over and run. She is a wild animal by nature and she can’t do anything about it. If I was able to I’d shift so she could have her fun and show me what she is like when she is in control but I can’t.
“Sashi?” Karah’s voice startles me.
“I was born part vampire and part witch,” I tell Karah. Her eyes widen and I sense her inhaling my scent. Her face looks confused. “Because I’m so different I smell human. I don’t know why but I do. Do you have a nail file?” She nods and grabs her purse and a make-up bag. She hands me a metal nail file and I smile. Metal is easier to manipulate.
I close eyes and focus on the blade. Breathing deeply I touch the blade with my finger tips and feel the blade warm under my touch. “Grow and sharpen,” I tell the blade. The blade moves and becomes sharp. Karah gasps.
When I open my eyes Karah is crying. I reach out to touch her but hesitate. Why is she crying? “There shouldn’t be any of your kind left!” she gasps. “Oh dear goodness. How have you stayed hidden from the world?”
“What are you talking about?” I mumble.
“You are a freedom caster! Sashi, the supernatural world has made your kind extinct. I didn’t think there were any of you left.”
“Huh? I’m a what?” I shake my head.
“Oh dearness,” Karah reaches across the car and pulls me into an embrace. I stiffen. “You have no idea what you are. Where have you been living? What about your parents? Didn’t they tell you anything?”
“Can you explain what a freedom caster is first?”
Karah pulls away from me and wipes her tears. She smiles and then her face crumples and confusion. “But you said you were part vampire too. That’s not possible. Vampires don’t hold any magic in their bodies. They can’t hold magic in their bodies.” She shakes her head.
Time for the nail file turned dagger. I hold it up to her and run the sharp edge against my wrist. The blade cuts into my flesh. She gasps and grabs my wrist, but the wound closes up in seconds. She stares at the completely healed spot in wonder. I do it one more time and she watches the wound heal instantly again. Then she shakes her head again. “Vampires don’t heal that fast.”
I can’t help it. I let out a laugh. “Well, I guess I’m a mutant.” She looks at me horrified for a second before she starts laughing. It feels good. I wonder if this is how a mother is supposed to be. A good mother anyway.
After we stop laughing Karah reaches inside her purse and grabs a tissue. She hands it to me. “You might want to wipe the blood up so it doesn’t get on your clothes.” I look down at the few drops of blood remaining on my healed skin.
“Oh no,” I groan. A hunger hits me so bad I need to gasp for air to breathe. I was so angry at Rich that I forgot to feed. Let alone eat human food. I’m so hungry. I grab my throat and struggle against my seat belt. “My bag. Blood!” I rasp. Karah understands and flies out of the car to her trunk. In a few seconds she is back in the driver’s seat and opening my garbage bag. She hands me all the blood bags inside and I tear into the first one and slurp it all up. The second one meets the same fate, but by the third I can sip it slowly. I sigh happily.
“What was that?” Karah asks with worry.
“I haven’t had blood for almost two weeks. I don’t need blood every other day like a real vampire but I do need it at least once a week or I feel weak and get so hungry I can’t bare it. But I’m better now.”
“You are one unique young woman Sashi,” Karah smiles.
“I’m not that young. I’m 24 even though I look 17 or 18 years old.” I giggle, high on the blood.
“Oh dear,” Karah laughs, “You are young. I may look like I’m in my 30’s but I promise you that I’m older than you could guess.”
“Around 300 right? Or 350?” Karah gasps. I smile at her. “I know lots of werewolves.” Karah’s face fills with questions. Crap! I shouldn’t have said that I know a lot of werewolves. I get ready for her to ask me how but she doesn’t and I feel relief fills me.
Karah and I get back on the road and drive for several hours. We stop by a fast food place and get some food to tide us over until we get to her home. She gasps and laughs when I order several burgers and some chicken sandwiches and enough French fries and onion rings to feed a football team. Her order almost mirror’s mine and I laugh. The teenager at the drive up window is within seconds of fainting as he passes us 12 bags of food and 6 extra large milkshakes.
The sun starts to rise just as we reach a sign that says, “Welcome to Gold Point!” My stomach clenches with raw nervousness. Karah notices my discomfort and reaches across the car and squeezes my shoulder. She tells me it will be okay and everyone will love me. I trust her but I have not had very good luck with a community of werewolves.

This place will be different Sashi. I smile and close my eyes and see Lily sitting next to my side with her tail wagging. I haven’t seen her this excited since my dad was alive. A sadness hits me when I think of my dad. Don’t be sad. I know he would be proud of you Sashi. All he ever wanted was for you to be happy. This is all he has ever wanted for you. I nod at Lily and bend down and squeeze her. She playfully licks my ear and makes me giggle.
