Chapter 2

When I step in to the diner several heads turn towards me including the woman whose clothes I’m wearing. She gives me a little smile not suspecting anything and turns back to her little boy. My heart clenches. I’m so sorry.
“Table for one?” a blonde waitress comes up to me. I nod and she smiles. “Right this way please.” I follow the waitress to a small corner table and sit down. She hands me a menu and asks me what I would like to drink. I tell I want coffee with lots a creamer and sugar. She nods and leaves me alone.
I flip through the menu and my stomach growls. I’m so hungry. Breathe. You will have food soon. But I’m hungry Lily. And I’m thirsty. I feel Lily caress my mind to try and comfort me. We will have to stop and get you blood. But where? I won’t feed off anyone and I don’t know where a hospital is to swipe a bag of blood is. Shush. We will figure something out. Get your meat close to raw. That will tide you over until we come up with something.
“Are you ready to order?” a different waitress asks me while setting down my coffee.
“First off can I get a two blueberry muffins?” She writes down my order and nods. “I’d like two servings of steak and eggs. Eggs cooked well and steaks rare. Very rare. Also a plate of pancakes and hash browns. A bowl of fruit would be nice too.” The waitress stares at me with wide, gawking eyes. “Please hurry. And please bring the muffins out right away.” She scrambles away and leaves me alone.
I down my coffee and wait for my muffins. A large gentleman watches me. He raises his cup of coffee to me and winks. I give a little nod back and turn my attention to the window. The clouds are thick and I can smell rain. That will cover up any trace of me if it’s out there.
Someone brings me my blueberry muffins and tells me my order will be out within fifteen minutes. I finish each jumbo muffin in three bites and wait. I hear some ruffling and the man that was watching me sits on the other side of my table and smiles. I can feel Lily growling at him within me. Shush.
“Is there something you need?” I ask firmly.
He smiles at me. “I’ve never seen you around here before. Are you traveling?” I shrug and ignore his question. “Well, I don’t mean to be bothering you but I heard your order and I’m curious where a little thing like you is going to put all the food.” I meet his eyes and smile while I pat my tummy. “Well then, I’d like to make a little bet with you. If you can eat all the food without throwing up I’ll buy your meal for you.”
My interest peaks. “And if I don’t?”
“Then you will have to buy my meal and your own.” He smiles.
That’s all? I don’t trust him Sashi. I don’t trust him either but he’s human. If he has anything up his sleeve so to speak we can easily stop him. We don’t have much money and if he is offering to pay we are taking him up on it. Just be leery. I smell several different females on him. I nod mentally and look at the man in front of me. “You have a bet.” He smiles and nods his head.
“Darcy! I’d like a piece of apple pie.” He calls out to a waitress. “And bring over a pot of coffee.” I hear a woman yell that she will be right over. “I’m Richard by the way. Call me Rich.”
“I’m,” I pause and lie, “Shelly.” Rich flashes me his yellow teeth and nods.
Not long after Darcy brings over his pie and coffee my order comes out. The waitress places all the plates on the table. There is barely room to fit them all. Rich cannot stop laughing. He thinks he is going to win this bet. He has no idea how much a werewolf eats let along a vampire were hybrid with a large touch of witch magic. He’ll be broke after breakfast.
Lily was right, the rare meat helps calm my thirst. I eat my steaks first and then everything else. I’ve become first row entertainment for the small diner. With each bite more people come to observe.  Once I’m done with my first order of food I order another plate of pancakes and more steak and eggs. Then I add on three slices of the apple pie that Rich has been eating. I put my fork down and sigh happily.
“Thanks for the meal,” I smile and get out of the booth and grab my garbage bag. I walk out before he decides that he can’t pay for the meal.
I start walking down the road looking for a car willing to pick up a hitch hiker. Then I smell and hear Rich behind me. Slowly I face him. “I didn’t think you could do it. I’ve never seen a person eat that much. Are you sure you’re human?” I freeze and not because of his comment. A scent hits my nose and my body shivers with fear even though he is still miles away. Michael! Sashi we need to get out of here!
I smile at Rich. “Any chance you are heading out of this area? I need to catch a ride.” His yucky smile gets bigger and points behind him with his thumb at a black semi.
“Let’s get out of here then. Where are you heading?”
“Where ever you are.” I link my arm with his to encourage him to hurry. He walks me to his rig and I climb into the passenger side and slam the door shut. A putrid smell of sweat and sex hits me and makes me gag. If Michael wasn’t out there I’d be out of this truck before I even sat down.

“Well alright darlin’ let’s hit the road.” Rich revs the engine and honks the horn and takes off instantly. The wheels spin in the gravel on the side of the road and makes me grip the seat for dear life. I may be a hybrid and very, very if not impossible to kill but this man’s driving scares me. He himself scares me a bit. I don’t fear him. I just fear what he has done and what he will try to do to me. If he tries that on me he may not make it out of my presence alive. I fear killing him, but a part of me gets excited thinking about his blood on my hands.
